As part of Oxford County’s sustainability plan, the new Waste Management Administration Building & Education Centre will be a significant focal point for the county as it progresses with its zero-waste and 100-per-cent renewable initiatives. A variety of interactive displays that educate on environmental sustainability, renewable energy and zero waste. The facility has been designed to completely off-setthe site’s energy and electricity requirements with the use of an efficient building envelope, integrated mechanical and electrical systems, and solar panels. The centre not only houses county staff offices but it also provides an educational space that offers a variety of interactive displays that educate on environmental sustainability, renewable energy and zero waste. A unique feature of the building is the rammed earth walls that provide an attractive exterior finish using sustainable building materials while providing excellent thermal mass. A fixed array solar photovoltaic IPV) system produces energy to offset the site consumption. The solar PV system has two components, one being sized to offset the energy use of the new building in order to achieve a “net zero” performance, while the second part has been sized to offset the energy loads for tile remainder of the site.
