The Challenger Motor Freight project involved the construction of a new corporate office and maintenance facility on a 50-acre site, consisting of three distinct buildings. This modern and highly efficient facility became one of Canada’s first large-scale non-governmental projects to achieve LEED status. The corporate head office spans 57,000 square feet across three stories, featuring a complete backup emergency generator system, a driver training simulator, and a combination of glass curtain wall and Alucobond composite aluminum wall system for its exterior cladding. Additionally, it includes a staff lunchroom with an outdoor patio and a ground source heat and air conditioning system. The fuel and inspection building, covering 7,200 square feet, encompasses a three-bay indoor fueling facility with mechanic pits for tractor/trailer inspection while fueling. It also has a covered canopy for one-bay fueling, epoxy coated floors, and a comprehensive oil, lube, windshield washer, and transmission oil distribution system. The maintenance building spans 58,000 square feet and comprises maintenance offices, lunch and locker rooms, an auto body repair shop with parts and tire storage, a manual wash-bay, and an exterior tarping bay. The trailer and tractor repair bays are equipped with mechanic pits and under-floor storage rooms, while the in-floor hot water heating system utilizes waste oil and is supported by a backup natural gas system. The shop floor areas are finished with a retro-plate floor, and there is a separately ventilated indoor paint shop.
